Circus of the Damned
Book 3 of the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter Series

I'm Anita Blake, expert on creatures of the night.  Vampires call me The Executioner.  What I call them isn't repeatable.

A rouge vamp named Alejandro hit town and wanted to make me his human servant.  A war of the undead had begun.  Over me.  I'd have been flattered, if my life weren't at stake.

Brownie Points:  I absolutely loved the twist that the Mr. Oliver/Alejandro interplay caused, not to mention the battle royale with Edward (le sigh) and the gang.  Lots of conflicts were resolved in this book, but plenty more of the long-term species were caused, keeping up the pace of the series beautifully. Brownie Points:

Major Pitfalls:  Richard.  He's like, the pitfall of all pitfalls.  The black hole to beat black holes.  Admittedly, I liked him at this point in time, but in retrospect, it causes me to deduct like a gillion points for him even being *alive*.  Also, the lamia was a little cheap-feeling to me. Major Pitfalls:
Final Thoughts:  Great book, action packed and thoroughly enjoyable.  We begin to see a little more of the political side of the mosters here, which is a very interesting twist.  Although close, plotwise and action wise, this book fell short of the mark set by The Butterfly, so I had to shufflle it further down the line.
